Biography of Elder Otis Mckay
Favorite Scripture: Psalm 91 NKJV
1 He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. 2 I will say of the LORD, "He is my refuge and my fortress; My God, in Him I will trust."
3 Surely He shall deliver you from the snare of the fowlerAnd from the perilous pestilence. 4 He shall cover you with His feathers, And under His wings you shall take refuge; His truth shall be your shield and buckler. 5 You shall not be afraid of the terror by night, Nor of the arrow that flies by day, 6 Nor of the pestilence that walks in darkness, Nor of the destruction that lays waste at noonday.
7 A thousand may fall at your side, And ten thousand at your right hand; But it shall not come near you. 8 Only with your eyes shall you look, And see the reward of the wicked.
9 Because you have made the LORD, who is my refuge, Even the Most High, your dwelling place, 10 No evil shall befall you, Nor shall any plague come near your dwelling; 11 For He shall give His angels charge over you, To keep you in all your ways. 12 In their hands they shall bear you up, Lest you dash your foot against a stone. 13 You shall tread upon the lion and the cobra, The young lion and the serpent you shall trample underfoot.
Elder McKay was born on a share cropper farm in Steele, Missouri on July 23, 1936 to Mary E. and Lonnie McKay. He was the youngest of eleven siblings. Even though the family lived below the poverty level (closer to homeless level), five principals were rigidly enforced in this home: loving each other, Godly living, hard work, cleanliness and taking care of the “have not’s.
Seventy four years later, these principals still direct Otis’ life. Elder McKay’s walk with the Lord began in 1948, at the age of eleven when he accepted Jesus Christ as his personal savior.
Elder McKay attended O’Bannon High School in New Madrid, Missouri, where he met his child hood sweetheart and the love of his life, Fairy (Faye) S. McKinney. He joined the United States Air Force in 1954 as a Logistic Specialist. While serving in the United States Air Force, God blessed Otis with the most precious gift He had. God gave Otis the desire of his heart, Fairy, his child hood sweetheart. They were married on May 29, 1958 which was the happiest day of his life. To that marriage, Otis and Faye were blessed with three children: Pat, Chuck and Cindy. They were married until God called Faye home in 2005.
The McKay Family came to Denver in 1974 where they attend the Lowry AFB Chapel. In 1975, they were one of the five families who established the Lowry Gospel Service, where Elder McKay served as a lay leader until 1980. He then joined New Mission Baptist Church where he was ordained as a Deacon in 1980. He then planted a church, New Mission Baptist Church in Aurora, where he served until 1995. Elder McKay returned to Lowry Community Christian Church, where he was ordained as an Elder in 1996.
Elder McKay retired from the United States Air Force after serving twenty six years and was subsequently employed by the United States Postal Service from 1980 until 2001, where he worked as a Facilitator for Human Resources and Letter Carrier at the Englewood Post Office.
Elder McKay has two passions that dictate his walk with the Lord: that men and women realize the importance, the benefits and privileges they have with a personal relationship with God, and to look out ‘for the least of these”.
